Lipid Low SoftGels
(An Essential Dietary Supplement)
Lipid-Low Monograph
Description:
Comprised of two natural substances, 500mg of Triple Omega-3 marine oil and 5mg of Policosanol.
Triple Omega-3 is a 100% natural marine oil blend of EPA, DPA and DHA. Omega-3 PUFAs protect against Coronary Disease, mainly through Antiarrhythmic, Anti-inflammatory, and Antiplatelet effects. They also have Lipid-Modifying effects, which are related to Triglyceride reduction. Omega-3 PUFAs are also essential for the maintenance of good health.
Policosanol is a mixture of high aliphatic primary alcohols purified from sugar cane, rice bran, beeswax, broccoli, spinach, and oats. This mixture has cholesterol-lowering efficacy, its specific effects being to reduce Serum Total Cholesterol (TG) and Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C) and to increase High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (HDH-C). The effects of Policosanol on Triglycerides (TG) are modest and inconsistent.
Pharmacological Action:
Triple Omega-3:
• Lipid lowering (reduction in fasting triglyceride and VLDL levels often accompanied by a moderate rise in HDL-C levels, attenuation of postprandial triglyceride response).
• Reduction in Blood Pressure by maintaining Artery Wall Elasticity (Omega-3 can reduce blood pressure by 5-10% in patients with Hypertension).
• Improved Endothelial Relaxation (via enhancement of Nitric Oxide-Dependent and Nitric Oxide-Independent Vasodilation).
• Reduction in the risk of further mechanical damage to vessel walls, which can lead to extended Atherosclerosis.
• Inhibitory effect on Atherosclerosis and Inflammation (via inhibition of smooth-muscle cell proliferation, altered eicosanoid synthesis, reduced repression of cell adhesion molecules).
• Reduction in Adhesiveness (stickiness) of Platelet and Blood Cells (Cells that adhere to blood vessel walls cause localized inflammation).
• Anti-Thrombotic effects and other effects on the Hemostatic system (reduced platelet reactivity, moderately longer bleeding times, and reduced plasma viscosity).
• Decreased Heart Rate (via increased parasympathetic tone, altered cytokine levels, and other factors).
• Suppressed production of Inflammatory Cytokines (Interleukins, Tumour Necrosis Factor) and Mitogens.
• Reduction in Malignant Ventricular Arrhythmias (via enrichment of cardiac lipids in EPA, DPA and DHA).
• Protects against Immunological Over-Reaction.
Policosanol:
• Inhibition of Cholesterol Synthesis at its earliest steps of Cholesterol production process in the liver by altering the activity of the AcetylCoA enzyme (80% of Cholesterol is produced in the liver).
• Reduced the cholesterol content in different tissues such as the liver, heart and fatty tissue.
• Reduced platelet aggregation by altering prostaglandin synthesis.
• Lowered serum levels of the pro-aggregatory thromboxane A2, while increasing the anti-aggregatory prostaglandin prostacyclin.
• Prevented and reversed Atherosclerotic lesions and Thrombosis, and prevented intimal thickening and smooth muscle proferation.
• Effective antioxidant in preventing LDL oxidation.
Lipid-Low:
• Combination of the preceding health benefits associated with Triple Omega-3 and Policosanol.
• Positively asserted its actions in the Omega-3 PUFA production pathway.
• Stimulated the Beta-Oxidation, which then enhanced the production of the Omega-3 PUFAs, thereby adding to the amount of Omega-3 PUFAs in the body’s tissues.
• Further encouraged the anti-inflammatory cascade of Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA), Docosapentaenoic Acid (DPA) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) among its Cardiovascular Benefits.
Indications:
Is indicated as an adjunct to dietary and life-style recommendations to reduce elevated Cholesterol levels equal or above 5 mmol or above. Its primary application is in Type II Hypercholesterolemia, including IIa subtype (elevated Total Serum Cholesterol and LDL-C levels) and subtype IIb (mixed Hypercholesterolemia characterized by elevated Serum Cholesterol, LDL-C and Triglyceride levels). This can also be used as an alternative to aspirin as an antiplatelet agent.
Route(s) of Administration:
Oral.
Dosage Form(s):
Take 4 capsules with evening meal because most Cholesterol manufacturing occurs at night or as directed by your Healthcare Professional. Positive results have been observed with in 8 weeks.
Duration of Usage:
This product can be used for an indefinite period of time.
Safety, side effects and Toxicology:
Extremely safe profile. Has exerted no negative effect. No adverse effects on fertility and reproduction, or any mutagenic or carcinogenic effects.
Insulin dependent diabetics should use with caution and sugar levels need to be monitored.
Contraindications:
1. Pregnancy: This product is not to be taken by pregnant women. The reason is because Cholesterol and associated metabolic products are required for an adequate fetal development.
2. Lactation: It is not known whether this product or some active metabolite is excreted via the human milk during nursing, therefore therapy should be discontinued during lactation.
3. Paediatric Use: Efficacy and safety has not been well established in children. Therefore, treatment is not recommended for children at the present time.
